Where to Use Really Big Artwork

Where can you use really big Artwork? Anywhere you want to. From above living room sofas to bedroom headboards, large artwork makes a statement and can actually carry a room’s design. Learn how to use large art for dramatic impact in your home. Let me show you how.

• Living Room and Dining Room Walls

The most common place for large pieces of art is over a sofa or in a dining room above a side table or buffet. These long spaces beckon big splashes of color and composition to fill them and complement the rest of the decor. It’s traditional decorating – but, it also begs proper placement.

Resist hanging your pieces up too high. Artwork placed above a large piece of furniture is best positioned close to the piece as if the two belonged together. That’s what makes the real statement.

• Large Wall Murals

If you have the space, a large wall mural can do nothing but command attention. Just the sheer size of a wall mural installation would require no other artwork in the room. However, finding the right spot for your wall mural is the key.

Whether you are decorating a living room, dining room, bedroom or other space, the best wall for a mural is the first wall that you face upon entering the room. Then at least 75% of the wall should be fully visible – leaving only the outer edges of your artwork to be obscured, if necessary.

But, that doesn’t mean you have to have a large wall to install a wall mural. Even an empty facing entry wall in a bathroom could be a perfect spot for an over-sized art mural.

• Full Wall Collage Works

Another way to introduce large installations of art without using a big, single piece is to mount a collection of color-coordinated or same-subject pieces as a collage on your wall. A full wall collage work can bring color, texture and movement to your room from wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor.

• Headboard Installations

A piece of artwork hanging over your bed is pretty predictable. However, a large piece of artwork used in lieu of a headboard is downright fabulous. Yes, you can use a large painting – but, not every headboard art installation has to be an oil painting on canvas. Don’t pass up a massive wall sculpture for bold styling in the boudoir.
