Where to Take Fido: Dog Parks in Pittsburgh

Being a dog owner, one can be unsure where to take your pooch to have a “free run”. Well in Pittsburgh not far from the zip code of 15229 there are two dog parks. One located in North Park in the North Hills and one located in Riverview Park in the city of Pittsburgh.

North Park’s dog park is located where the old deer habitat used to be. It is a wide open area for ALL dogs to run free. However, there are rumors afloat of other dogs attacking other dogs and owners not doing a thing about it. Especially, the larger dogs going after the smaller dogs. I do not take my own small dog there based on these rumors.

Whereas, in Riverview Park, up by the observatory there are two dog parks, one is a general dog park and one is a park for small dogs. The general dog run for all dogs of all shapes and sizes, it usually has at least a handful of dogs within it and the owners stand there talking, whether or not they are watching their dogs and their dogs safety is questionable. Most take their dogs to that particular park in Riverview no matter what size their dog is due to the fact that no one rarely goes in the park with their small dogs. The park for the smaller size dogs rarely has any pooch in it. Hence I take my own dog within that park, she loves the free run and I can give her my 110% attention without worrying about other dogs attacking her or being distracted by other owners or their comments towards my dog.

Overall, in the end choosing a dog park for you to take your own fido to is your choice and your choice alone, but it is recommended to be vigilante of the park you choose and how you choose to monitor your dog at the park. Remember fresh air and exercise is not only good for you, but also good for you dog.
