Volunteering Opportunities in Montreal

This article is all about Volunteering in my community. Yet, people who are new in town may want to read this if wanting volunteering some of their time!

The Volunteer Bureau of Montreal recruits volunteers for more than 700 charitable and non-profit organizations active in many fields-including health and social services, community development, sports and recreation, education, the environment, arts and culture and others. Potential volunteers have a wide range of activities to choose from. The Volunteer Bureau will direct you to activities that best meet your priorities and that correspond to your interests, skills and availability.

For those who consider volunteering but have little time you can opt for (i.e. phone calls to the elderly) taking only a few minutes per day and per week or as much as you wish.

This is really amazing… The Volunteer Food Services Central Office, a program of the Volunteer Bureau of Montreal, offers a variety of support services to a network of about a hundred affiliated Meals-on-Wheels groups and Lunch Clubs for seniors.

Central Office staff is responsible for the development and promotion of its associated network of Meals-on-Wheels groups and Lunch Clubs. This includes offering support services to existing groups and helping set up new ones as well as promoting and representing the movement:

Volunteer food services: Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot meals to seniors who need home care services to help them maintain their independence. Community meal services or Lunch Clubs bring more mobile seniors together for congregate dining and social activities.

Transporting and accompanying seniors to appointments or running errands for them. Conducting activities in seniors’ centres: fitness sessions, arts and crafts workshops, bingo, Internet, social activities, recreational and cultural outings. Day cares, camps, schools, museums, community centres, etc. Hospitals, rehabilitation centres. Cultural and recreational activities. See Big Brothers Big Sisters. Missing Children’s Network, Children’s Wish Foundation General office work: filing, photocopying, phone calls, etc. Computer work: word processing, data entry, Internet, Web site programming. Accounting, book-keeping. Translating letters, documents Transporting and accompanying people with reduced autonomy, helping reduce their isolation, taking them to medical appointments, cultural and social events, etc. Delivering Meals on Wheels. Collecting donations: food, clothing, furniture, etc. Driving a minibus (volunteers must possess the required driving licence).

All transport expenses will be reimbursed!
