Use Push Pins to Reclaim Your Closet and Drawer Space

Consider for a moment, one of our most overlooked items – the lowly push pin. It may seem pretty one dimensional, even trivial, but don’t underestimate its transformative power. The push pin is the quick, painless way to tack something to a wall or improve a craft project, but its securing abilities don’t end there. By using them strategically around your house, push pins extend and transform your storage space.

A push pin affixes a calendar to a wall, makes a poster float as a thing of beauty over your bed, but it can do so much more. Efficiently used, push pins can also reduce the clutter in closets and drawers. Don’t run out and buy expensive storage bins – when a box of push pins may do the job just as well.

Hanger Horror

Closets – despite all the magic making in the world – won’t get much bigger. Yes, you can buy those closet helpers, which cost a lot, but the simple truth is closet size is pretty much fixed. Your wall space – around the closet that is – can be decidedly more flexible.

Above or next to a closet is an overlooked area. It’s yelling at you to use it, but you don’t hear its cry. Buy a box of push pins to enable the wall space to get through to you. Place the little plastic marvels along the top of the closet, or alongside, and you now have makeshift holders for your hangers. Even a small closet has room on top or on the side for 5-10 push pins or more.

By no means should you restrict push pin hanger helpers to only the closet area, but it’s the most logical place to go for and to see clothing hung up. Any wall will do. In fact, if you have some wild t-shirts, hanging a few up complete with their crazy color splashes or designs, could work as both decoration and a storage space expander.

Some people may hesitate to hang lots of clothing – especially heavy articles – on their walls. I’d encourage you to only hang up light tops or shorts, but of course you know your own clothing best.

Using push pins to go beyond your closet space and drawer constraints is a cheap, easy and fun way to reclaim your closet, chest of drawers and even decorate your walls in a unique way.
