Update on 14 Year Old Brandon Jolly

This is an update about Brandon Jolly the 14 year old that recently had a seven hour surgery to help his severe scoliosis. I wrote about his courage and the support of his family in this article.

Brandon had his surgery last week and after a hospital stay from July 28th until September 17th he has returned to his home! Yes the brave young man is at home with his family while he recovers from his surgery. His journey reminds me of Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Now that Brandon is home and if he can keep his sister Celena AKA “The Oreo Bandit” out of his stash of goodies then he will be doing really well! I am sure that some home cooking and the love and support from friends, family and church will strengthen Brandon quickly.

Not only was I impressed with Brandon’s courage and faith along with that of his family, his kindness is notable as well. In preparation for surgery Brandon had to wear a Halo device. Brandon befriended some younger kids who were also wearing a Halo. Some teen age boys would be too cool to be nice to smaller kids

Brandon has had a hard road to travel including a failed surgery when he was six years old but he has persevered. “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.

I would like to thank some people who helped me spread the word about Brandon Jolly and his special courage. Marc James from WFNZ in Charlotte North Carolina asked for prayers for Brandon at the top of each hour of his show “The Drive” one day. Since that is actually played on several radio stations, thousands of people heard that message.

My buddy John Thornton a long time NFL player left Brandon some encouraging words on his guestbook and helped out on Twitter. Fellow writers Rachel De Carlos , Amy Brantley and Rissa Watkins who among others posted encouraging messages and helped promote his site on Facebook. Rissa has recently been in a battle of her own, with leukemia, and lost her father unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago.

Brandon still needs your thoughts and prayers as he recovers. I will continue to try and monitor Brandon’s progress and will post significant updates in the comments section of this article.
