Unique, Chic Ways to Incorporate Pumpkins into Your Fall Wedding Decor

Pumpkins are a fall staple – we turn them into desserts, toast the seeds, carve them into jack-o-lanterns, and spend lots of time making sure we pick out the prettiest ones. It is only natural to want to incorporate pumpkins and gourds into your wedding decor if you are getting married in the fall or if you are having a Halloween wedding. Keep reading for some easy and unique ideas for making your pumpkin display a little more pretty!

Pumpkins Vase

Cut open the top of your pumpkins the same way you would cut an opening in the top of a jack-o-lantern and clear out all the seeds. Fill the bottom of your pumpkin with water to keep your flowers hydrated then arrange flowers as you would in any other vase. Make sure you fill your pumpkin up with flowers to the edge so your guests will not be able to see the opening. You can see a few examples of pumpkins being used as vases here!

Bejeweled Pumpkins

It may sound like a strange idea, but you would be surprised how amazing a pumpkin can look with vintage accessories and costume jewelry draped over it. You can use a brooch to hold together strains of pearls and chains similar to the beautiful example shown here.

Lace and Filigree Pumpkins

Try carving a feminine pattern into pumpkins instead of scary faces! Check out Martha Stewart’s DIY Filigree Pumpkin tutorial. You may even want to expand that line of filigree to make an entire lace pumpkin which you can see here. The more holes you carve in your pumpkin, the quicker it will rot so make sure you do this project as close to your wedding day as possible!

Monogrammed Pumpkins

Print out a the first initial of your new last name (or your full out monogram) in your favorite font. Cut out the letters and use a grease pencil to outline them on your pumpkin(s). Carve out the letters and viola; you’ve got a gorgeous personalized monogrammed pumpkin like the ones seen here!

Painted Pumpkins

Painting pumpkins is one of my favorite ideas that I have mentioned here because this little project can be done quickly and easily. Plus pumpkins last for ages and ages if they aren’t punctured or carved so you could send your extra pumpkins home as wedding favors at the end of the night. Ideas for painting your pumpkin could be a hand painted monogram, “Till death do us part” or any other meaningful phrase, your favorite pattern, using lace as a stencil, cameos, or even painting your pumpkins solid colors that match your wedding’s color scheme. You can view a great variety of painted pumpkins here. It might even be fun to try using chalkboard paint on your pumpkins if you are into that type of thing (ok, really who isn’t into that type thing).

Pumpkins in Sexy Stockings

Repurpose your old lace, fishnet, and patterned stockings into wedding decor. This is another easy DIY project that requires no carving of your pumpkins. Just slide your pumpkin down into the stocking and tie around the stem. It might sound like a bizarre idea, but as you can see from the examples here, the effect is really quite lovely!

Extra Tip

Try displaying some of your pumpkins on cake stands or atop candle stick holders, wedding decor has a tendency to look more interesting with a variety of elevations.

I have been told that technically any “pumpkin” that is any color other than orange is considered a gourd, but for the sake of this article, we will say they are one in the same. A white pumpkin/gourd would look great at any wedding, and if you are having a fall wedding with pink in your color palate, by all means, pick up a pink gourd and try decorating it using one of the ideas mentioned above!
