Tropical Storm Lee Update

Tropical Storm Lee is expected to hit the Gulf Coast sometime on Saturday and could unleash with up to 20 inches of rain in some places according to CNN weather forecast.

Lee appears to be taking aim at the Louisiana coast, an area that can ill afford another flooding. New Orleans, which was devastated by Katrina, can expect as much as 8-10 inches of rain. Along with the rain, high sustained winds can be expected; but nothing along the magnitude of Katrina.

To the disappointment of Texans, the storm is expected to turn easterly and move towards Mississippi. The whole state of Texas is currently in drought conditions and desperately needs rain. I live just east of Dallas in Rockwall County and we have only had a slight trace of rain the last three months along with close to 70 days of 100 degree plus temperatures. Some areas in West Texas have not had any rain in seven months. Cattle ranchers have had to slaughter their cattle for lack of food and water and the cotton and wheat fields have been badly decimated with cost rising into the billions.

A slight break in the Texas heat wave is expected to give some relief on Labor Day, with temperatures in the low nineties, and then dropping to the eighties later during the week; but there are still no signs of rain.

Please do your best rain dance.
