Travelling Teddy Bears

I thought I would write a short article on the phenomenon of travelling teddy bears. For anyone who has not encountered this before, it is where a Teddy bear travels to exciting and far flung places (usually with a human handler) and gets photographed in front of interesting landmarks.

I first encountered this craze when I was on an Easy Jet flight and read about their travel bear that they were selling on board, and they included a competition for people to send in the most interesting photos involving the bear (named Gilliver, I think). I became fascinated by the idea and I think it is quite an interesting and original way to share travel blogs and experiences with people.

Almost any Teddy can become a travelling bear but he/she should not be too large, so that he can fit into a small bag. Also, he should probably not be a vintage or very expensive bear as he is likely to get dirty on his exciting travels and in the worst case scenario, he could become lost and unable to find a way home.

In some ways, Paddington Bear can be considered a pioneer in this field as he arrived at Paddington station with only a suitcase and a note instructing whoever found him to look after him. His adventures are well documented.

I guess the best way to explain the travelling bear craze is to show an example, so check out the link below for a travelling bear website.
