Tim Tebow? Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Tim Tebow mania began in earnest and now back in Denver, he’s as cold as the pre-Halloween snow. Or is he?

The San Diego Chargers came to Sports Authority Stadium at Mile High and Denver fans finally got football that was exciting to watch. The Broncos didn’t win, but the fans did. Then came Oakland.

Now with the win in Oakland, is Tebow our guy? Did the Broncos win or did the Raiders lose?

Good vs. Great

The moment Tim Tebow takes the field the whole vibe used to change. Fans’ eyes popped would pop wide open. In bars, waiters stopped serving beer as everyone started to watch. On the field, in the stands, and on TV, it was clear something was going to happen. The Broncos knew it. Most importantly, the fans got what they had asked for: Tim Tebow, quarterback.

Be careful what you wish for

Florida’s favorite son went back to the sunshine state at Miami’s Sun Life stadium, as a starting pro football quarterback, for the first time.

What’s so different?

The Chargers first half with Kyle Orton was predictably boring; yet with Tim Tebow, the fans and the Chargers didn’t know what he would do to win. When players like Tim Tebow take the field, they put everything on the line. Every time, every play. This kind of commitment shows and it makes watching football, inspiring.

Inner Underdog

Against the Chargers, Tim Tebow turned an average mid-season game into something we not only wanted to watch, but he made the watching of football, riveting. With Detroit at Mile High, it was as boring as with Orton. Sportscasters talk about the wins and the accuracy of Tebow. For NFL fans, Tebow re-engaged our collective inner underdog. With the Lions, we see what his coaches originally saw. With the Oakland Raiders, we Tebow beaten up and come back.

But, we didn’t see a great quarterback. We saw lucky plays, and Tebow was on the field when it happened.

It’s not that fans don’t like Kyle Orton. It was a novelty to watch Tebow. It was more exciting to watch somebody who’s willing to get out of the pocket and take chances. It’s a little bit like life, itself. If you’ve got one shot to prove yourself for a short amount of time, think Steve Jobs, then you go for it. Why wouldn’t you?

Tim Tebow returns to Florida

Like a mythic hero’s journey, Tebow returns to Florida as a starting pro football quarterback. The Broncos’ new team leader exemplifies not only a desire to win, but also a craving to engage. And, the dedication he brings to the field will resonated with fans both in Denver and in Florida. As the season progresses, the Broncos still need a leader quarterback, and I don’t think anyone see that quality in Tebow.

Having Tim Tebow on the field made the fans watch not because of what they would see, but because of what they might see.

Initially, Tebow upped the game for everyone. Back in Denver for the second time and the honeymoon started to wane. After the win over the Raider in Oakland, the loving feeling is also fading.

Tim Tebow went to Florida and maybe he should have stayed.
