Three Ways to Celebrate Labor Day in the St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay Area

Celebrate this Labor Day with your family: have a picnic, home barbecue, or one of the three ways below. Enjoy your day off, be thankful for those who struggled for decent pay and hours, and say a prayer for the many still looking for work.

MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry), Buy One Admission, Get One Free

4801 E. Fowler Ave, Tampa

9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.

One of my family’s favorite activities is spending the day at a museum. This is a great bargain with plenty to do inside and out for children of all ages. There are enough activities specifically designed for children, seniors, and adults for the whole day. Adults ($20.95), Seniors ($18.95), Children ($16.95). The café is open 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. For further information, please call 813-987-6065.

U.S.S. Independence Viewing, Free

10:00a.m. Dock in St. Petersburg

Unfortunately, the tickets for tours of this Mobile, Alabama ship were sold out within an hour of opening. I’m including it here, however, as it is still worth a trip to see it. Recommended viewing sites are: Bay Vista Park (7000 Fourth St. S.), The Pier (800 Second Ave. N.E.), and Lassing Park, 18th Ave. S.), Poynter Park (1000 Third St. S.), or watch on the St. Petersburg Webcam.

Celebrate Oldsmar, Free

Family fun for this day-long event. Bring a blanket or lawnchair to relax as your children play on bounce houses. Although admission and parking are free, according to the St. Petersburg Times, “the highest priced on the menu, a hamburger…$1.50.” and “tickets to carnival rides are priced separately”. Wind up your day listening to music (5p.m. to 9p.m.) and celebrate the end of Labor Day by watching a fireworks display over the water. Please call 813-749-1260 for further information.
