The Moonlit Elf

Once upon a time, under the light of the moon
sat on a limb, a pale-faced elf
who dreamed of touching the stars
though they were so far away
from her little home in the leaves
of a beautifully green canopy

In the confines of her canopy
she would look at the moon
and sit on her green leaves
this little pale-faced elf
dreaming of how she may go away
and live among the stars

Oh how lovely they looked, the stars
shining their glittering light on her canopy
and always in such a way
that they seem to dance with the moon
and this little pale-faced elf
danced along on the tips of the leaves

If only she could grow wings to fly away
so that she may dance with the stars
how happy would she be, the little elf
far above her green canopy
a pixie in the sky, like her moon
shining down upon her leaves

There must be a way
she thought, for her to leave
and be among the moon
and play with the fellow stars
no longer in her canopy,
and no longer just a pale-faced elf

no longer would she be a pale-faced elf
looking longingly and far away
sitting lonely, among her leaves,
in the bushel of her green canopy
but just like the many stars
that dance along with her precious moon

And in her dream, the elf leaves
and lives far away, by the stars
in its canopy with her beloved moon.
