I know, dish washing liquid, not a topic that is going to save the world, lol, but hey I found it interesting.
As an experienced dishwasher from the baby boomer era, aka old fart, I know my dish soap.
I have raised 5 children, who now have children, and I am happily married to my 3rd and best husband (3rd time’s the charm:) and through ALL of these years I have used Palmolive. Literally for decades. I have argued with and defended this dish soap above all others to three different husbands, justifying my preference with it’s superior sudsing,cleaning, and squeaky clean finish. Before the dishwasher era and beyond, I stuck with my Palmolive. Until spring of 2011.
At first I thought I had just gotten a bottle that was part of a bad batch. Then it was two bottles. By the third bottle, trying different sizes, and different stores I came to the conclusion something was different. It no longer sudsed up as well, and no matter how long you rinsed that squeaky clean was not attainable, the dishes and especially pans felt greasy, no matter what. I tried a few other name brands, with the same results. After buying one more Palmolive I came to the conclusion that they must have changed the formula. I mean it really bothered me enough that I did call the 800 number.
This was confirmed, when I was told that the new formula was based on natural and organic “lactic acid”. Yes folks your immediate thoughts connecting lactic acid with the stomach is correct. I was offered all kinds of coupons (which I declined), and the lady apologized profusely for the fact that I was not happy with the new formula, but there were no plans to return to the old formula, etc…
Preliminary research of course reveals the “collection” of this lactic acid is associated with slaughter of meat animals… Gross.
I have tried MANY brands over the past few months, and as the lady from the Palmolive company predicted, most had changed over to this lactic based formula> BUT hallelujahs I can report today I have found a sudsing sqeaky clean replacement
