The Lonesome Gamer

Gabe loved playing World of Warcraft. He played it from the moment he woke up to the time he fell asleep. He was always happy while playing the game, but his life began to suffer. His girlfriend left him, but he didn’t care. He had millions of potential digital girlfriends right at his finger tips after all. Then his friends stopped coming by. Gabe would never answer the door because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft. In his mind that was a blessing. More time for the video game he loved. Then his family stopped calling in to check on him. Every time they would call Gabe would yell at them for interrupting his game. Everybody in his life gave up on him. He pushed away everyone a normal person would hold dear.

On a cold and windy winter night a tree managed to fall on an electric line, causing the whole neighborhood to go dark. This, of course, prevented Gabe from playing his game. In a panic, he rushed to the phone to call his friends to see if they had electricity and internet – but no one answered. Assuming the phones were down too he drove to his parents house. It was dark, but he could see his parents in the living room watching TV. Upon knocking and announcing he had arrived the entire house went dark and quiet. They didn’t want to deal with his rudeness anymore. He was going to swing by his ex-girlfriend’s house, but he remembered she moved a couple states away after the breakup.

Gabe finally realized he was truly alone. Sometimes friends and family can get in the way of personal enjoyment, but they are always good to have. Because once they are gone you really feel it.
