Thanksgiving time has found its way to us again, and all around the city, local holiday parades and events are bringing Portlanders good cheer for the coming holiday season. Here is a guide to fun Thanksgiving outings around town.

Willamette Wineries are hosting the 29th Annual wine tasting event this Thanksgiving Weekend with over 160 tasting rooms opening around the Willamette Valley. From November 25-27, member wineries will be open for tasting from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unwind and soak up the beauty of fall in warm tasting rooms while sipping some of Oregon’s finest. Prices vary by winery; most from $7-$20 per person per tasting.

Thursday, November 24, Portland’s annual Thanksgiving 4-mile run will commence at the Zoo at 7 a.m. Registration for the wacky holiday-themed race is due November 15 and is $27 for adults or $12 for children under 11 to run in the Tot Trot, and it includes admission to the zoo if you want to check out the animals after the event. Oregon Road Runners Club offers a $5 rebate upon registration for participants who ride the MAX; blue and red line trains toward Hillsboro stop at the Zoo on Thanksgiving Day. The Turkey Trot also accommodates those who wish to walk and strollers are allowed. This is a great way to get your holiday spirits up and get some exercise in before dinner time!

Thanksgiving Reunion Market

Local farmers come together on November 22 for one final event of the year, to sell fresh bread, cheese, cured meats, jam, canned goods, fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, and more. The market will have live music and is a nice way to support area farmers while picking up some goodies for Thanksgiving dinner.

PROPER hosts its 9th Annual Free feast this year on Thanksgiving Day from 12-4 p.m. Intended to serve those in need, the event draws hundreds of volunteers, donations, and local artists for a cheery and heartwarming event. Dinner features traditional, vegan, and vegetarian menu options, and live entertainment. Send in your story of Thanks to be printed out and featured on the community wall space during the event, and read what it means to others to be thankful on this day.

Macy’s Holiday Parade
NW Park Avenue and Davis, Portland, OR

Macy’s scales down its New York Thanksgiving Day Parade for the streets of Portland, kicking off at NW Park and Davis at 9 a.m. on November 25. While there may be fewer floats, the pomp and grandeur of the Portland parade is just as spectacular as out east, with marching bands, floats, balloons, dancers, local celebrities, and Santa. Parking is free but limited in the area and parade-watchers are encouraged to take the Portland Streetcar and to arrive early with chairs for curbside seating.
