Storage Wars

A&E’s hit new show Storage Wars features professional buyers bidding on storage units. The competition is fierce and each of the stars of the show has a different reason and strategy to their bidding.

Dan Dotson and his wife, Laura Dotson run American Auctioneers which auctions off storage units. In California storage units are auctioned off after the owners do not pay for three months. Every episode of Storage Wars shows Dan and Laura auctioning off the storage units to the highest bidder. Laura explains the rules every time they open a unit reminding people they cannot enter the unit and that they only have 5 minutes. In some episodes Don or Laura share comments or background information with the audience.

Dave Hester is probably the most annoying and most hated cast member of Storage Wars. Dave Hester owns a thrift store called Rags to Riches for which he needs items for which is why he is at the storage bids in the first place. Dave annoys everyone from other cast members to the audience at home with his annoying “yyyuuuppp.” Hester bids up other people even when he doesn’t want the locker, is rude to other cast members even when they are being courteous to him, and thinks too highly of himself. On the other hand he is currently the most successful of the cast, donates items he cannot use in his store to goodwill and is a good businessman.

Darrell Sheets is a veteran of the Storage Wars. On the show he often comes across as a hot headed red neck that gets his gambling fix by bidding on storage units. In interviews with Darrell Sheets is when you realize that this is a professional who is good at what he does. He also offers advice and his show of support to those that want to get into the Storage Wars business.

Barry Weiss is the collector of Storage Wars. Barry will buy an entire unit just because he thinks there may be that one collectible piece. He is the lovable old eccentric but sometimes frustrates others with his carelessness of non-collectible items that others could sell and make money off of.

Jarrod Schulz and his wife Brandi Passante are the only couple on Storage Wars. They are the youngest of the Storage Wars cast and the most invested in making every locker count. They own their own thrift shop and have the least money to throw around. Brandi brings a female dynamic and the audience feels for them as they argue one minute and kiss the next.

Out of all the Storage Wars cast Dave Hester makes me cringe and I have secretly hoped many times for is unit to be a dud, it rarely is though. I cheer Jarrod and Brandi on as my husband and I watch them argue about how much to risk on a unit and then make an awesome find.
