Staying Healthy in Georgia Colleges

Many students find themselves overwhelmed with papers, tests, and reading assignments that they often neglect staying fit. Thus, exercising is put on the backburner which leads to a time in many students’ lives where they find themselves gaining weight. College is an important time for students to take time to exercise. Why, because many students eat on the go, resorting to unhealthy meals and fast food diets. Luckily many Georgia colleges make it easy and affordable for students to stay fit while in college. Students should take advantage of the resources available to them.

For example, Georgia State University has a variety of free or low cost services offered to students. In the Student Urban Center at the school students have access to a nutritionist and a personal trainer. For less than $20.00 an intern and a qualified nutritionist will work with students to create a diet plan that will help them lose or even gain weight. They will assess your current weight and a healthy target weight. The first visit they will discuss your goals and give you a journal to fill out. The journal will give them an idea of your eating habits. The next visit they will make suggestions about what you should eat and when you should eat. The list that they give you includes a variety of foods to choose from. The list will also tell you how many calories are included in each meal or snack. There are two additional follow-up visits that they offer as well. There is a personal trainer who will give you work-out tips to help you achieve your ideal body weight and build.

Additionally, there are also yoga, aerobics, and swimming lessons for you to participate in. Taking advantage of these services can help you maintain healthy eating habits for life. It is very accessible and convenient way for students to stay fit. Most doctors suggest at least 45 minutes of exercise a day. If you find it difficult to work-out every day start out will achievable goals. Perhaps commit to working out at least three times a week. You can then increase it to four and five when you feel comfortable. In order for you to stay committed and enthused consider recruiting a friend so that both of you can motivate each other.
