Some of the Perks of Being a Senior Citizen

Do not get me wrong, I would have loved to remain thirty-something for the rest of my life, but only under one condition. That condition would be, to have my present acquired knowledge and wisdom contemporaneous with the aforementioned age. Inasmuch as that scenario cannot be played out, I will settle for, and make the best of my senior years.

The fact of the matter is, as I get older, I experience many of the growing pains associated with getting old. Common sense dictates to me, that since I cannot control the aging process, I should throw in a few personal things of my own to make life more comfortable. For example, the spouse may ask me to run an errand; I can use my aching back card to avoid this task.

Enumerated below are just a few of the many things I plan to implement to avoid being stressed out. I have no plans of letting anyone get on my nerves. I did my time as a youngster, and it is now time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

1. I will use my old age card whenever it is advantageous to me.

I may succeed at fooling a few people that I can do many of the things I did while younger, but why should I. I now see a clearer picture and many of the outdated things means nothing today. For example, I was always in a hurry, now that I reflect on those times, I was only going in circles. You know, like the dog chasing his tail.

2. I will use my old age card whenever I do not want to be bothered with someone.

I may be engrossed in a movie and the phone rings; I know it is not some hot chick calling for a date, or the lottery dealer calling to tell me I have won the big one. At my age, the movie or anything else I am doing take precedence over what someone else may want. I will only be disturbed for life and death issues, and I hope it is not my life.

3. I will use my old age card to get others to do things for me.

That one may sound a little selfish and mean spirited, but think of this. The more you do for people, the more is expected of you. One must shift the program so others will not ask too many things of you. By asking others to do things for you, they will tire of your requests and attempt to avoid you. This works great for me, because I did not want to be bothered in the first place.

4. I will use my card to avoid a meeting or some other occurrences.

A big gathering of former employees is scheduled for the coming month, and I told most everyone I would be there. However, it occurred to me that I did not really like most of them while working. As such, why should I stress myself out? Perfect time to use the old age card, i.e. feeling dizzy, back pain, etc.

5. I will do some of the things I always wanted to do.

I may take that cross-country trip. I may take up flying. I may just disappear for a week or two, I must remember, I am nearing the age where I will disappear forever, so I may as well take a few practice runs. If someone calls me out for my activities, I will just tell them, I do not know what came over me.
