Siri – Your New Everything

Meet Siri. While you can’t see her and her voice is computer generated with phonetic pronunciation, she’s your new personal assistant. She’s quite literally all you could ever want in a useful secretary, as long as you use her of course. While not debuting the iPhone 5 as expected during the press conference on Oct. 4, 2011, Apple made waves by introducing the iPhone 4S. It’s faster than the previous iPhone 4, offering faster downloads and a dual band antenna, but includes Siri – your own personal assistant. For consumers waiting to switch to an iPhone or iPhone users looking for an upgrade, Siri captured them hook, line and sinker. Even loyal Apple customers with the latest iPhone 4 were hooked on this amazing new feature.

Siri is not just any added application to the iPhone, quite literally she is the best personal assistant that you’ve ever had. Unlike previous voice recognition software, Siri really does understand you. Siri adapts to your voice so you don’t have to worry about speaking in a robotic tone for her to understand you and just about anything you can think of to ask, she can do for you. Not only does she adapt to your voice, she adapts to your lifestyle as well. By adjusting settings, Siri can recognize your relationships. For example, tell Siri to text your wife that you love her and Siri will do just that because she knows that your wife is a certain contact. Siri learns your lifestyle and adjusts to it. You can add other relationships as well and simply place calls without saying the actual person’s name i.e. “call my father.” In addition, Siri has the ability to browse the Web, find locations or attractions, add meetings to your calendar and so much more. By simply accessing Siri, you literally have everything you could possibly want in a personal assistant in the palm of your hand.

At the initial launch of the iPhone 4s, Siri was amazing but not without problems. At times the application had to be turned off and turned back on or the network was overloaded because of the overuse. Just like any application, Siri isn’t quite perfected yet and there are still a few bugs that Apple developers are working out but regardless, Siri is clearly a step above the rest and a feature that you can only find in the iPhone 4s. In conjunction with the iCloud, Siri works amazingly with relationship features however, when using an Exchange account Siri only sets up spousal and manager relationships. So if your contacts are synced to your iPhone 4s via Exchange you cannot add relationships quite as easily. Another widely reported bug is that Siri, who can read your text messages to you, will not do so if the screen is locked. There have been workarounds to this bug but it can be annoying to users who would rather use Siri to access new text messages. While there are some other bugs reported by iPhone 4s users here and there, most of the problems with Siri have been worked out and/or are currently under redesign. One can be sure that an update will be sent out by Apple in the future perfecting all of the bugs that Siri contains.

Siri makes the iPhone 4s a level above other smartphones simply by design and usability. It clearly generates a new standard in the technology market that will make wave, not only in product development but in application development. Not without a sense of humor, Apple also integrates humor into Siri, if you are skeptical about this, just tell Siri that you love her and wait for a response. In addition to various other phrases and statements that you can make to Siri, this software is definitely a product of engineering genius and a challenge to the world of technology. Siri can be your everything, all you have to do is use your imagination and let Siri do the rest.
