Santa Chaos

All children love Santa. I have four children ranging in age from 8 years to seven weeks. They were born in a girl-boy pattern, starting with a girl ending with a boy. My children have an obsession with Santa Claus. They talk about Santa all year long. In fact, most of my children’s conversations with each other revolve around him. Santa is a big name in our house.

So when Christmas rolls around, it is a huge deal when we visit Santa. They spend hours picking the most beautiful of outfits to wear to visit the big man. Hair is curled, barrettes are arranged accordingly ,and bow ties are straightened in place.

All four of my children are dressed in red and green matching outfits. They look like the perfect Christmas card climbing out of the silver minivan. Off we go into the mall of wonderment….

The line to enter the North Pole is pretty long. All of my children are screeching with excitement. They are so very excited to be breathing the same air as this man. The line to see Santa is so long. We wait about forty minutes to see the big guy. By the time we get up to see Santa, complete chaos has broken out between my children. They look like they were all in a wrestling match. Barrettes are falling off, hair is a mess, and clothes are covered in candy canes. As we approach Santa, I see my two year old’s face crinkle up into a mortified expression. Surely enough she begins screaming and climbing up me while I hold her brother in the front carrier. My eight year old, Olivia and four year old, Joseph, run over to Santa so excited to tell him what they want! While they are snapping the picture, I see Santa start pushing my four year old off his lap. I quickly grab my children and pay the lady. Joseph informs me that he didn’t mean to pee on Santa he was just so excited to see him! Needless to say, the picture was not a success. Olivia is standing in the picture blank faced because she was too afraid to talk to him, Josephs pants are all wet and he is being pushed off of Santa’s lap, by Santa. The other two didn’t even make it into the picture. Oh well, there’s always next year….
