Review: Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Sandwich Bread

As I mentioned once before, we send a bagged lunch with our daughter almost every school day. This is both because school lunches aren’t as affordable as they used to be and because the school’s lunch menu rarely has anything we know our daughter will actually eat (and that’s NOT just because she’s picky).

Since cold lunches can sometimes get to be a bit routine after a while, my wife and I do make efforts to add some sort of little treat or surprise for her in an effort to keep her from getting bored. This is why, when my wife was out shopping and came across Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Sandwich Bread; she didn’t hesitate to buy a package.

The first time we saw this, both my daughter and I thought this was pretty cool. It’s white sandwich bread but, it is cut in the shape of goldfish. In fact, the second my daughter saw this, she started talking about all the possibilities; including having a tuna fish on the fish-shaped bread (which I thought was kind of funny considering she’s like me and doesn’t like tuna).

I did have some concerns about this product when I first saw it, mostly because we have tried sandwich breads like this in the past and found they either had a strange taste to them or tasted stale compared to a regular loaf of bread. This is why, when I had an opportunity to, I had a piece of this at lunch. And, after trying it, I have to admit it was pretty good.

First, the bread is fresh to the point it is very soft. When I picked it up, it started to break apart (the one thing my daughter complains about because her sandwiches will fall apart a bit when she’s eating them). And, unlike the last brand of thin sandwich bread we purchased, this didn’t have a strange taste to it at all; it tasted just like white bread. I obviously appreciated both of these things because my daughter isn’t the type of person who will eat something if it doesn’t taste quite right to her.

This bread was a bit more expensive than one of our regular brands and, as a result of that, I don’t think it is something I would buy on a regular basis for her. However, I would definitely consider buying it on occasion and do recommend it if you are looking for something different for your kids.
