Review of Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables Baby Food

Feeding my granddaughter organic baby food is very important to me even though they are more expensive. We’ve been buying mostly Earth’s Best Organic Baby Food, but when I coupled coupons with a store sale I was able to buy the Sprout Organic Baby Food for a reasonable price.

Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables comes in a 5.5 ounce pouch with a handy zipper style closure along the top. It is a stage 3 baby food, and according to the front of the package it can be fed to babies 8 months of age and older. My granddaughter is 11 months of age and has been eating stage 3 baby food for some time.

The 5.5 ounce packages are smaller than the Earth’s Best stage 3 foods, which contain 6 ounces. I’ve seen the Sprout 3 foods range in price from $1.99 to $1.65 each, but they were on sale for $1.00 at my local Fred Meyer store. I had a “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” coupon which really came in handy!

I love the fact that Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables is free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. The pouch is BPA free, and they are certified organic. Our baby is very mobile and she burns up a lot of calories during the day, so I was very pleased to read that Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables contains a very generous 14 grams of protein! For comparisons same, oour 6 ounce jar of Earth’s Best Vegetable Pilaf contains only 5 grams of protein. Our pediatrician is always stressing the importance of protein in our babies diet.

I fed Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables to my granddaughter yesterday for lunch, but she didn’t eat the entire pouch. In fact, she didn’t seem to care for it at all, so I put the food in the refrigerator and tried again at dinner time, with much better results. I saved the package for reviewing, and according to the back of the package this product contains organic ground chicken, filtered water, organic Yukon Gold potatoes, organic corn, organic peas, organic cream, organic carrots, organic onions, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic garlic, organic vegetable base, and organic sage.

The package states that this meal is an “advanced meal with texture”. The Co-Founder and Chef of the Sprout baby foods is Tyler Florence, and the Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables gives our baby a bit more flavor that other baby food. It took my granddaughter a few minutes to get used to the texture of this food, and it requires a lot more chewing on her part. Before feeding her Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables she had never eaten foods flavored with onions, garlic and sage, and that took some getting used to as well. She ate finished the Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables at dinner and seemed to enjoy it thoroughly.

Although heating is not required, we like to place the pouch in a bowl of hot water to warm it up before serving it to our baby. You cannot microwave or boil the pouch. My husband pours the baby food into a small glass jar and heats it in the microwave, but I am more careful about heating food this way because microwaves can cause hot spots in baby food that could burn her mouth. Using hot water works well and that is the method I would recommend.

Sprout Organic Creamy Chicken & Mixed Garden Vegetables are indeed very expensive, and I only buy these when they are on sale, and I take advantage of the Sprout Foods coupons.
