Review of My Diet Resolutions for 2011

I wrote a few articles about my progress on my diet resolutions for this year – the first was in December of 2010, when I wrote an article discussing what my diet resolutions were for 2011. The second was in June, when I wrote a follow-up article about my progress with my diet resolutions. This article will be my final update on my diet resolutions for 2011.

My first diet resolution for 2011 was to exercise more. I did end up being successful with this, though it wasn’t in the way I originally planned. I originally planned to try to add short bursts of activity throughout the day in addition to the workouts I do in the mornings four to five days a week. I didn’t end up doing that, but I did add a few longer, more intense workouts to my routine. One of the more intense workouts I added was a workout video from The Firm that alternated weight training with bursts of aerobic activity. Another more in tense workout that I added later in the year was another workout DVD that I found that also had both aerobic and weight training workouts on it.

Another diet resolution I had made for 2011 was to drink more water and less soda, and I have been very successful with this. I now drink mostly water during the day, and only drink sodas at night – and then I usually only limit myself to one soda or one small cup of soda. Drinking more water has not only helped my weight loss, but it’s also helped me with my work – I do mostly phone work during the week, so I drink a lot of water so I don’t lose my voice or irritate my throat.

I had also resolved to try to change up some of the things I eat during the day – I wanted to replace some of the frozen dinners I eat with things like chicken breasts or lean hamburgers or turkey burgers with brown rice and/or vegetables. I have done this quite a bit, however how often I can do this is dictated by what my husband brings home from the grocery store, since he’s t he one that does the grocery shopping. My husband and I have also started eating less fast food – when we do eat fast food, we’ve been making healthier choices, such as getting grilled wraps or chili and baked potatoes from Wendy’s. We still get higher-fat options every so often, such as pizza or Chinese food, however we don’t eat that as much anymore.

Because we’ve been making better choices, my husband and I have started to see a lot of positive changes – I’ve lost about 20 pounds now, and my husband has lost about 60 pounds or more. My body fat has also been going down a little bit – according to the body fat monitor I got earlier this year, my body fat percentage has gone down to 30.5 percent from almost 34 percent earlier this year. My BMI has also come down considerably – it’s almost down into the normal range. I’m also pleased to say that I recently bought myself a pair of size 10 relaxed fit jeans – this is a major accomplishment for me, because it’s been a very long time since I’ve been able to fit into a size 10 pair of jeans.

I’m very pleased with the progress I’ve made so far. This coming year I going to continue to work on my weight – I hope to get it down to the 120s soon, and I’m also going to continue to work on toning up my body. I will discuss how I plan to achieve these resolutions, as well as some non diet-related resolutions, in another article.
