My wife did a bit of grocery shopping a few days ago. And, since our oldest daughter is back in school and needs things both for lunch and their mid-morning snack, most of the money was spent on things for her.
We were on a bit of a limited budget so my wife decided to do the bulk of her shopping at our local Aldi. And, in an effort to buy healthy snack/lunch items, she ended up purchasing a package of Happy Farms Mild Cheddar Cheese Sticks.
To be perfectly honest with you, I’m not really sure why my wife picked these out for our daughter. Even though she claims to like cheddar cheese sticks, I have never actually seen her eat one and I’m not convinced she isn’t giving them away at school. However, I know I do like cheese sticks and wasted no time trying one.
I have tried cheese from this particular brand in the past and I honestly wasn’t that big of a fan of it. So, when I tried these cheese sticks, I figured that would end up being the case too. In fact, I was expecting the bulk of this package to eventually end up in the garbage. However, as it turns out, these were surprisingly good.
The last time I tried something from the Happy Farms brand that was supposed to be “mild” cheddar cheese; it was much closer to being sharp cheddar (which I’m not a fan of). This time around, the cheese tasted exactly as I feel it should. It had just the right amount of flavor, not bland (like many other cheap brands of cheese) but not overly strong either.
Also, unlike the last time I tried this brand, the cheese wasn’t overly greasy. This is important to me because I will usually eat something like this while at work and don’t want to have grease on my fingers when I’m answering my phone or answering e-mail.
I should also mention this snack is very filling. I was running late the other morning and wound up having one of these for breakfast. I figured I would end up needing something a bit later (like the donuts one of my co-workers brought in). But I was actually fine until lunch.
I might not like other products from this brand but this is something I would definitely buy again. If you are looking for something affordable and healthy as a snack, I recommend looking for this product.
