While banter, compassion, and enthusiasm for Ron Paul is great and warranted, ignorant and nonsensical rants are not. When you speak to defend Ron Paul’s record or viability of leading this great nation, don’t just repudiate the claims made by MSM, you have to use factual knowledge to discredit those who speak against him and to inform the other listeners. Remember when you call into a radio or talk show you are trying to convince the listening audience that the host’s viewpoints can be debated and are misleading. Ron Paul already has your support. It is your job to make sure that by supporting him, you are aware of the issues and troubles that are leading this country in the wrong direction. If at the very least all supporters who call in or which to partake in any discussion for his benefit should remember these simple points
1. Foreign Policy- Ron Paul wishes to institute the ‘Golden Rule’, “Do not do to others what you would not like yourself.” We should treat other nations the way we wish to be treated. We do not wish to incite hatred or claim we know what’s right because we are ‘morally just’. Trade of goods and ideas is how we wish to be received by other nations, so let us be the example first. 2. Osama Bin Laden- This is a bit tricky but remember this. Ron Paul voted for the authority to go after Osama Bin Laden, wherever he was. When we entered Pakistan to go after him, we did it without the authorization or even notifying Pakistan. We would not have tolerated ANY country invading the U.S. with military force to capture/kill someone that sought refuge in the U.S. 3. Gold Standard- Realize that to go immediately to the gold standard would not be feasible. Advocate a process and program where we return to a system where the value of our money is backed by an item of value (traditionally gold). This prevents the whimsical and inflated creation of our currency. 4. Federal Reserve- Again, realize that complete abolishment of the Fed is not reasonable in the short order; this should be our long term goal. We wish to eliminate any outside agency to create currency, as the Constitution states that only Congress has the authority. We also want an immediate audit of the Federal Reserve. 5. Taxes- Get them as low as possible immediately. This benefits everyone (not just 1%). By cutting taxes you force to government to cut spending and live within their means. Ideally federal taxes would be cut to 0%, and that would force Congress to operate within the confines of the Constitution. 6. Social Issues- Any disputes about social issues from welfare to gay marriage should be handled by the states. The 9th and 10th amendment specifically state that any power not enumerated to the federal government is reserved to the state and people, respectively. 7. National Defense- Money spent on sustaining 5 bases in Germany is not national defense. Bring the troops home and allow the money spent overseas be spent here at home. Not 1 penny is taken out of national defense. By brining all the troops’ home from overseas that would create more bases here at home and allow for the troops to defend our borders, not Afghanistan’s. State how he receives more military donations than any other candidate (2x as much as the other republican candidates combined). 8. Federal Spending- Cut spending by $1 trillion year one, a balanced budget in 3 years. By cutting overseas spending and eliminating federal bureaucracies (Education, HUD, Energy, Commerce, and Interior), you drastically cut spending and can be in easy reach of a balanced budget.
This was a very brief overview of his positions and from what I hear on the radio, stating any of these facts would repudiate almost 90% of the attacks against him. Also, BE COURTEOUS. You do not win anyone over by being aggressive, calling them stupid/ignorant, or by yelling at someone. Answer their questions honestly and to the best of your ability. If you don’t know the answer, say so. Point them to his website or pull out one of his pamphlets you no doubt carry. Remember you are representing Ron Paul any time you talk in favor of him. State you claim, defend your base, and allow the individual to make their own decision.
