Neon Birthday Party

My niece recently decided that she was done with the characters but wanted something fun for her 9th birthday party. So she choose neon colors which are popular right now. She also wanted to integrate stars into her birthday decor. At first the idea seemed a bit complicated because it was not your typical neon theme she wanted, no glow sticks, or 80″s style. She just wanted neon colors and stars. At first I could not find many decorative items at the party stores with neon colors other than plates, napkins, and cups. But coming up a with a neon themed party was actually easier than I thought.

The materials

Black tablecloths
Neon colored poster board
Black poster board
Black plastic top hats
Colored stickers
Clear goody bags
Candy wrapped in bright colors
Bright colored ribbon

Create an easy picture backdrop

I hung a black tablecloth and taped stars all over. In the middle I taped a larger pink number nine which I cut from the poster board. On the bottom I taped small strips of crepe paper.

The Cake

The cake was decorated with neon colors as well. The cake was all green with various colored stars spread over the cake. There were small stars on black sticks inserted into the cake. And the topper was a large pink number nine.

Cake table decor

I used a black tablecloth and put the bright neon colored cake in the middle. Around the cake I spread the various colored stars and number nines i cut. The table decor was simple yet bright and it integrated every aspect of the theme, neon colors and stars.

Party favors and activities

I made candy goody bags that were tied with the bright ribbon. At the party store I got black plastic top hats which the children decorated with bright colored stickers. The top hats were just a fun unique addition to the neon color theme. I also gave the children each a black piece of poster board with nine cut out strips of neon color poster board. The children were to make a tally mark piece of artwork, representing nine tally marks for the birthday girl.

The neon party was a success! It was simple yet fun and most importantly represented the birthday girl.
