1. Gift Cards.

We all get them and we all seem to give them at some time or another.
Do you know where you put yours?

The FTC says that the new rules for gift cards went into effect on August 22, 2010. among the rules,

Money on a gift card cannot expire for at least five years from the date the card was purchased, or from the last date any additional money was loaded onto the card. If the expiration date listed on the card is earlier than these dates, the money can be transferred to a replacement card at no cost. Inactivity fees can be charged only after a card hasn’t been used for at least one year, and you can be charged only once per month. But you may be charged a fee to buy the card or to replace a lost or stolen card. The expiration date of a card must be clearly disclosed on the card, and fees must be clearly disclosed on the card or its packaging.

Here is your reminder to dig out your gift cards and use them.

2. Stuff lying around your house.

You’ve got ‘stuff’ lying around your house and it may be worth something even though you have not touched it in years. If that stuff may be worth something to someone else, why not sell it on eBay?

Examples of ‘stuff’ that sells on eBay;

Handbags Cell phones Videos and other media Shoes or other items that may still have their tags on them.

3. Reward points.

You may not even realize that you have any.
Check your credit card statements to see if there is a reward point mentioning. Take note of expiration dates and what you need to cash them in.

4. Free offers that expire.

Okay, so you may not have been seeing a lot of these in recent days but, have you ever received a free offer such as a rebate? Here is your reminder to get on that offer before it expires.

5. Those silly charges that keep popping up on your credit card statement.

Remember five years ago when you signed up for something that you haven’t used in the past year? Still paying for email services that don’t match gmail? How about dial-up? With all of these charges, sometimes it can be hard to detect the fraudulent charges that can also pop up. And, sometimes the fraudulent charges pop up small while the thief is checking out the ability to use your card. The point is, you should be checking out every charge on your bill no matter how big it is.

6. Clean your closet!

Clean out your closet and you are almost guaranteed to find some coins or even dollar bills. It’s like getting paid to clean your closet!

7. Don’t throw those coupons away!

The quickest way to put money into one part of your budget is to take it out of another part of your budget. Why not start with coupons? Give yourself a goal to save $20 a week using coupons and apply that $20 to another part of your budget!

8. Enter those contests and sweepstakes!

You just can’t win if you don’t enter. You probably have a sweepstakes entrance form or two in your pantry or refrigerator- attached to something you’ve purchased.

9. Learn how to conserve.
You can save a bit of money by taking small steps. Unplug items that are plugged in and not being used. Turn those lights off if you’re not in that room. This is another way to take money out of one part of your budget and place it in another.

10. Go online and get some tips.

You never know what you’ll find in the way of how to save money and find money!

There are so many things to keep track of in life that it can be easy to let small charges pass by. But, these charges do add up. $20 a month turns into $240 a year and $1200 over five years.
