Lessons Learned

I used to think that I would never get this “life” thing right. It always seemed that I would get two steps forward and then take two steps back. Yet, when I took the time to look back on things, I realized that each experience provided a valuable lesson. Perhaps that is what this “life” thing is all about…

I’VE LEARNED…

~ That if you are meant to be together you will be.

~ That life does not wait for you, if you don’t hit the floor running in the morning it surely will pass you by.

~ That you have no business thinking you are equipped to raise a child if you haven’t even raised yourself.

~ That if your significant other is not your best friend and you cannot tell them everything, perhaps they should not be your significant other.

~ That if you continually write your budget down and yet don’t stick to it, you cannot be surprised that there is no money left.

~ That children will be the greatest blessing and yet the greatest challenge.

~ That you can be united as one and still be your own person.

~ That if you do not communicate your feelings you cannot be surprised when you are hurt over and over.

~ That there is no “perfect” husband/wife. If your entire life is spent looking for perfection you will surely miss the imperfections that make that individual the beautiful person they are.

~ That marriage is a partnership. There is no boss, it is equal and if you live it that way it is a beautiful thing.

~ That if you do not talk to your children and be straight forward with them about sex, drugs, alcohol and so on, you cannot be surprised when they decide to experience things on their own.

~ That your children are going to inevitably test you time and again and see how far they can go. If you do not stick to disciplining them then you cannot complain when you are visiting them in jail.

~ That although two people as parents may not agree with the way one disciplines the children, if you voice that in front of them they will learn right away that you can be played against one another.

~ That children should not be handed everything. They need to understand that hard work is what it takes to get the things you want in life.

~ That if you have boys you will have broken furniture, windows, and so on. And you will also have a ghost that lives in your house as nobody ever knows who did it.

~ That raising boys is completely different from raising girls. When boys fight they punch each other and its over, when girls fight they bring up things from five years ago and are drama!

~ That if you have a family that loves you and you them, great friends and wonderful memories then you have everything you need in life.
