Joe the Plumber in Congress

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, also known as “Joe the Plumber”, who gained notoriety during the 2008 presidential campaign, recently filed papers to run for Congress in Ohio. Joe the Plumber will be running as a Republican for the 9th Congressional District.

Joe the Plumber publicly criticized Barack Obama’s tax plan during the campaign when the candidate visited Holland, Ohio. As a hardworking plumber, Joe said Obama’s tax plan was not good for average working-class American families and that it would cause his taxes to rise.

“Joe the Plumber” soon became a household name and Senator John McCain repeatedly made references to it during his final debate against Barack Obama. Joe the Plumber later claimed that Senator McCain ruined his life. It was revealed that he did not have a plumber’s license and that he would probably get a tax break under Obama’s tax plan. This resulted in massive attention and criticism of Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher.

However, “Joe the Plumber” has been able to capitalize on his popularity. He has been traveling around the country giving speeches at tea party rallies, and republicans in Ohio recruited him to run for Congress. A website has already been set up to help raise campaign funds. The question is – does the 37 year-old, unlicensed plumber have what it takes to be in Congress? And why did he decide to run for Congress when it is clear that he despises politicians?
