It’s Not Just for Spring Anymore!

We all know that spring is the traditional time to clean, but there are quite a few things you should clean more than once a year. Here are four things to do at the beginning of every season.

Intensive dusting and/or vacuuming

This means everything. Ceilings, corners, electronics, vents, filters, furniture, etc. Ideally, you should do this on a monthly basis, but that’s not an option for most of us. It’s probably a good idea to do this on a day when you can keep the windows open, especially if you have allergies.

Check your vertical surfaces

This doesn’t just mean your cabinets and mirrors. Check the walls, doors, and windows for any spots that may need a good scrub. Plus, when it comes to windows, you’ll want to make sure that you clean the sills and frames thoroughly.

Clean areas you don’t think about very often

See if you can get behind the refrigerator, washer, and dryer. Run the dishwasher while it’s empty, and take some time to clean the stove and the oven. That way, when the smoke alarm goes off, you’ll know it wasn’t your cooking that was the culprit.

Get rid of anything you don’t need / can’t use

There are two parts to this.

First are the things that you don’t use, but someone else could. Good rule of thumb: If you haven’t used it in a year, get rid of it. You can sell it or give it away.

Second are things that just aren’t good anymore. That means expired food, medications, etc.

If you want to do some of these things more often, then great! Once a month will keep your things in even better shape.
