Is Victoria Azarenka Capable of Having a Stellar Season?

She’s started off the year 17-0, by way of winning 3 tournaments including the Australian Open. But, is she capable of keeping the loss column at 0 all the way till the end of the year? It is a long season, but if we look at the upcoming tournaments and the momentum she can gain from them, we can see the Novak Djokovic of the women’s game. Two American hard court tournaments are coming up in the month of March; Indian Wells and Miami. This will be Vika’s time to shine. While, Azarenka has only reached one semi-final at Indian Wells, she won Miami twice. She is no longer the same player mentally or physically as in year’s past.

Just last year, Victoria Azarenka pondered quitting the Women’s Tennis circuit. But, a trip to Belarus to visit her grandmother put her whole career into perspective. Vika decided she would get stronger, and start to think more positively on court. Azarenka was notoriously know for her on court temper, but that is long gone as of 2012. As for the clay court season, which she will be faced with right after the March hard-courts. Azarenka is an all court player, but clay would probably be her weakest service. She’s won a couple of doubles titles on clay, and was runner-up at the 2009 French Open doubles tournament. As long as Vika ,manages to push her long legs through the tough clay she will be able to conquer the clay court season.

The grass court season is the toughest one to predict for Vika. She definitely has the power to play on grass, but fans will question if she has the mental game to hit through a slow ball. She did reach the semi-finals at last year’s Wimbledon, so we definitely have to watch her there. And, this year it just so happens that the fans will get to see another tournament being played on grass, the 2012 Olympics in London. Azarenka plays some of her best tennis when playing for her country of Belarus. I would already book her as one of the favorites to win the singles gold medal, and if she can find a good partner we should watch her excel in the doubles tournament as well.

She will round off the last grand slam of the year on the hard courts in America once again. She does very well during the US Open series, so as long as she continues that streak, she’s very capable of making some noise at the 2012 US Open. The Asian swing will soon be upon Vika, which will only slightly hamper her on her quest to a stellar season. The season will end in Istanbul, at the year end championships where Vika will be going for a her second victory in a row.
