If One is Anti-Tim Tebow at Christmas, Does that Make One the Grinch?

As I’m sure you are aware, there is a mania sweeping the Nation. It’s Tebow-mania. I wish I could somehow copyright his name so that every time it was spoken or written I would receive a shiny new nickel. No one in my family for the next 10 generations would ever have to worry about money again. Alas, I digress.

To the topic at hand: I expressed an opinion about Tim Tebow that wasn’t glowing when asked my opinion of him and now I have been labeled as a “Tebow Hater”. Somehow, despite the fact that it is blatantly false, I hate Tim Tebow. The truth is, I admire the kids will to win. I admire his ability to withstand the rigors of the NFL at the quarterback position as primarily a runner. I even admire his steadfast belief in his faith, and himself, to persevere no matter what the odds are against it.

What I don’t believe is that he is a Franchise caliber quarterback. I didn’t say he wasn’t a “football player”. I said he’s not a franchise caliber quarterback. John Elway isn’t convinced he is that caliber either. He’s said as much. I suppose he is a “hater” as well.

His Win/Loss record does lend him some credibility. I would counter that a team can win despite a player as opposed to it being because of one. I think the Broncos situation is somewhere in the middle of that. I don’t believe they are totally winning despite Tim Tebow, but I also don’t believe they are winning because of him. The Broncos defense has been largely great during this stretch. The Special Teams have been equally excellent. Luck, both good for the Broncos and bad for the other teams, has played it’s part as well. Everyone knows that there were some unfathomable mistakes made in the last game by the Bears

In the loss to the Patriots, Tim Tebow wasn’t awful. Yet, he was clearly not capable of outdueling Tom Brady in a high scoring game against potentially the worst defense in the league. I’ll remain steadfast in my beliefs on Tim Tebow while being openminded enough to admit if I am proven wrong in the future.
