How We Deprive Ourselves from Better Health on a Daily Basis

We were not intended to spend out lives indoors. Humans are naturally drawn to the wide open fields and wooded areas for a reason. Even our cemeteries are designed with nature in mind. Being outdoors brings us peace and relaxes our bodies, but also our minds. It even sharpens your focus and helps you think more clearly. You just simply have to step into a park and you will instantly feel calmer, more at peace. Things somehow begin to feel better when we commune with nature.

We spend most of our time either parked on the sofa watching T.V., behind the steering wheel of a car, sitting at a desk or sleeping in bed and all this time we are breathing in artificially cooled or heated air that has been recirculated only to be breathed again. Why do we think this is a good thing?

Being penned up indoors all time, it’s no wonder we are more violent, drink more, weigh more, eat more and sleep less. We are being deprived of one of our most valuable natural resources. This new age of technology is taking us farther and farther away from the natural world. There’s no need to go out and milk the cow or pick the corn, we can order it online or, if we prefer we can go enjoy the nice fresh grocery store air while we shop. We no longer need to bring the water in from a well, we can just get a big old cold glass of chemically enhanced water right from the tap. There’s no need to walk to the neighbor house for a visit to see how they are doing because we are in constant contact via text.

Our children are being raised in front of the T.V. or video game, pounding away at the keys of an ipad or laptop computer or texting on the cell phone. What is happening here?

Zoo keepers spend huge amounts of money, time and manpower to recreate a natural habitat for the animals because without it, they will not mate or eat properly, they may even hurt themselves or others. They simply would not thrive. That very closely resembles what we are seeing with ourselves. We need our natural habitat, also.

It’s time to turn off the computer, close the cell phone, take out the earbuds, turn off the television and grab the kids and go outside for some fresh air therapy. It won’t be the end of the world if we unplug for a while each day and it’s guaranteed you will feel better for it.
