How to Spoil Your Dog or Cat and Show Your Love

As pet parents, it is your responsibility to provide all their necessities, love and care for a healthy life. Your dogs have a way to love you unconditionally as they appreciate all you do for them. The bond between you and your pets is amazing as they help you to grow and learn. Besides all that you need to do for your pets, they do deserve a certain amount of spoiling love and attention to show them how much you really appreciate them in your complex and hectic lives. After all, they do love you unconditionally so are they not deserving of special treatment and affection? There are many ways that you can spoil your dog though using food is not always the best idea. You don’t want to subject your dogs to possible obesity by over feeding them with high calorie treats.

· If you do want to treat your dog with a “goody”, first be sure to choose treats that are low calorie and low fat. Some treats such as the longer beef sticks or bacon can actually be cut in half. Your dog will be thrilled with anything that you give it. Quantity does not matter as much as the “gift of giving” from you. · One of the best ways to “spoil” your dog is to monitor it to be sure it is eating, drinking and having normal bowel movements. When sitting with you, feel your dog’s body for lumps and bumps and note any abnormalities. · Regular vet visits are a must. Your pup may not think you are spoiling him/her at the time but providing good health is imperative for your dog to be happy. After all, your dog relies on you for good health care. · Your doggy may not think so at the time, but a good brushing and bath feels so refreshing to your pet, providing for a better healthy skin and coat. Make it a quality fun time and don’t forget teeth brushing as well. · Take your dog for a walk. Dogs love the bonding experience with you while getting much needed exercise. Maybe your dog, like ours has a favorite toy to chase. Take your dog outside daily if you can to play fetch with that favorite toy or a Frisbee. With a small dog, you can play this “toy game” inside as well. Your dog will look forward to this time together with you while reaping the physical benefits. If you have multiple dogs, choose the type of fetch or game each likes as not all dogs will appreciate the exact same type of physical exercise and game. · Going to the dog park is a real treat for your dog. He/she gets to visit with friends, romp around and play. Of course, your dog should have a collar on with up-to-date tags for identification in case you get separated from your dog or – heaven forbid, your pup gets lost. A photo on you with your dog’s picture is always a good idea as well. · Many dogs love car rides. Take your dog to a drive-through eatery, bank or wherever you do your business as your dog will love the attention from most people at the take-out windows. Don’t forget car safety for your pet. Use puppy car seats or appropriate harnesses. · Don’t forget those special shopping dates with your favorite pooch (or kitty) at Petco or Petsmart — or both. There is nothing more fun for your pets than to pick out their own toys, treats and collars. · Get some special recipe’s to bake your dog some healthy homemade treats. Let him/her know what you are doing when in the kitchen so your dog knows who the treats are for. · Talk to your dog as you would your best friend. You can use fun silly baby talk and just enjoy the time. Your dog will love the bonding experience with you as well. · Have special snuggle/hugging time. There is no better way to bond with your furry best friend than to spend quality cuddle time together. · Hold your dog as you would a child. I have a little girl that likes to be cradled in my arms while I rub her tummy. Unbelievably, I have a little boy that wants to be picked up all the time and actually holds on to my shoulder like a child would. They love being picked up and loved. · Give your dog a really nice back rub. Our bigger Chihuahua does not care to be picked up as much but comes to us with her puppy in her mouth. She is begging for a back and butt rub and loves the attention. All dogs have different ways to show their needs and love. · It is amazing how all my dogs love it when I sit on the floor at their level. They will each bring me one of their special toys to either play fetch or tug of war. This is an extremely fun and bonding experience for all of you. · If you travel or need to go away for short periods, be sure to find a responsible person or place to leave your pet. These “babies” deserve the best of care so it can take time to find someone you can trust. · There is no other creature on earth that appreciates you more than your dog. They just want you around. Your dog will not care what you are doing just as long as you are there to spend time with him/her.

There are many other ways that you can think of yourself to spoil your dogs (or cats as well) in a very healthy, loving way. Most pets just want the love and reassurance of their pet parents and the smallest act of kindness and love will reap big benefits for you and your pet.
