Homemade Recipes for Burn Relief

Whether you’ve spent too much time in the sun, or accidentally burned yourself at home, you can get the relief you need without heading to the pharmacy for expensive burn relief ointment. You can find many ingredients in your kitchen for homemade recipes that offer great burn relief. These homemade remedies will literally cost pennies to make yourself, but they are just as effective as the pricey burn relief ointments sold in stores.

When we were young, our mothers and grandmothers seemed to have a homemade remedy for whatever ailed us. Turns out, many of those homemade recipes really work! Try these homemade recipes for burn relief:

Baking soda – For small burns, combine four tablespoons baking soda and one quart cool water. Saturate a washcloth with the mixture and apply it to the skin. For all-over sunburn relief, soak in the bathtub for 15 – 20 minutes in cool water and ½ cup baking soda. When you’re done soaking, blot (don’t rub) the skin dry.

Club soda – Sometimes, the most simple homemade remedies work best. This one requires a soft washcloth, club soda, and ice. First, rinse sunburns or minor burns with club soda. Then, saturate a washcloth with club soda and pack it full of ice. Apply the cold compress for fast burn relief.

Corn starch – Apply enough corn starch and water to make a paste. Gently apply it directly to the burn for quick burn relief.

Oatmeal – Burns are not only painful, they itch something terrible! To relieve that tight, itchy feeling, soak in a tub filled with lukewarm water and 1 cup uncooked oats.

Tea bags – Apply a cold, wet tea bag directly to the burn and you’ll be amazed at how fast your skin feels better. This is one of the best homemade remedies for small burns caused by cooking, or accidental contact with hot appliances.

Vegetable oil – One of the reasons sunburns hurt so badly is that they tighten and stretch the skin. Vegetable oil, when combined with a few other ingredients, is one of my favorite homemade remedies for burn relief because it really softens the skin. Combine 1 cup vegetable oil, ½ cup honey, ½ cup Ivory hand soap, and 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract. Mix together and add roughly ¼ cup of the mixture to cool bathwater. The longer you soak, the better your skin will feel!
