Happy Apple Poison

I’m casting out everything that reminded me of you
taking the winter colors from my life
redecorating

I took the colors from outside
brought them to the walls
the summer sun
the green grass
the browns of the rich soil that filters through my toes when I walk barefoot
the tans of sand
the blues of the sky

-blended them
wrapped them around me like a blanket

I let hope this patches what I feel on the inside
covers the chilled exterior of my heart
I’m letting the summer light in again
pushing you away
letting the new spark regrow in my heart
this happy apple apple to replace the poison your lies have fed me
