Halloween Movies

If movies are on your agenda for this Halloween, a nostalgic return to the classics might be the perfect solution. Finding some of these older Halloween movies might be a trick but with a little searching, you are sure to find them.

Creature from the Black Lagoon
This is a 1954 monster movie classic. A group of scientists are looking in the Amazon River for fossils when they find Gill-Man (yes, that really is his name) in the Black Lagoon. Of course they capture it but it gets away only to return later to kidnap a woman in their party.

Dracula
The 1931 version of Dracula is a classic black and white horror film. Bela Lugosi’s portrayal of Dracula is worth the viewing. In this version, Renfield becomes a thrall of Dracula and helps him get to London. Dracula tries to turn Mina Seward into a vampire. Dr. Van Helsing discovers that Dracula is a vampire and does what is necessary to prevent Mina from becoming a vampire as well

Frankenstein

We again go back to 1931 for this classic among Halloween movies. Boris Karloff portrays the monster and is the role Karloff is most known for. He succeeds in creating a monster you can be sympathetic for without uttering more than a few words. In this version, Frankenstein creates his monster from pieces of exhumed corpses.

The Bride of Frankenstein

This is a 1935 classic that is a sequel to Frankenstein. It is one of those rare sequels that is as good as the original, some even consider it better. Karloff returns as the monster in this movie. A different crazy scientist, Dr. Pretorius, forces Dr. Frankenstein to create a mate for the monster.

The Invisible Man

This is another classic horror film from the 1930s based off of an H.G. Wells novel. This one was made in 1933 and is about a scientist who succeeds in making himself invisible with a special formula. The mixture begins to make him crazy and he goes on a killing spree.

Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, and the Invisible Man were all movies directed by James Whale, noted for his contribution to the horror genre.

The Wolf Man
The 1941 version is the most known and best of the versions of this movie. Larry Talbot visits a gypsy camp and while saving a girl from a werewolf, is bitten by it. This makes him turn into a werewolf during every full moon.

Try spending your Halloween this year with some of these classics from the horror genre. These are perfect Halloween movies that are sure to give you a deeper appreciation of classic horror movies.
