Easy to Make Halo for Angel Costumes

Every little girl dreams of being an angel at some point in her life. Making the costume from an old party dress is the easy part, but getting the halo to stand up above the head is often a challenge. This easy-to-make halo only takes a few minutes to make but looks great.

You Will Need:

Plastic hair band Medium weight wire Glue gun Wired garland Matching ribbon Select a plastic hair band that fits comfortably on you child. If the hair band doesn’t fit comfortably, your little angel will spend the night tugging at her halo and miss all the fun. Cut a 24- to 30-inch length of wire to create the frame for the halo. Wrap one end around the middle of the headband and secure it tightly by twisting. Place the headband on your child and extend the free end of the wire straight up to a height of approximately 4 inches. Height depends on the size of the child and the desired height of the halo. Form a circle with the remaining wire to form the base of the halo. Typically, the halo should be a little larger than the circumference of your child’s head. Adjust as necessary, by trimming away excess wire. While some prefer a halo that circles the top of the child’s head, others prefer to bend the wire back slightly so the halo rests at an angle. Remove the headband from your child. Wrap the halo with wired garland. You can find this in the Christmas decorations at discount stores for a dollar or two during the holidays. During off season, check the party supply store. Look for one with gold or silver stars to catch the light and complement the angel costume. Secure the garland to the halo by twisting the ends to the wire frame. Check that the garland is securely attached and covers the wire frame. Use a small section of wire to secure any loose areas. Place the headband on your child’s head to test the halo. Make adjustments as necessary. Some children may be irritated by the wire on the headband. If this is an issue, place a small piece of padded material over the wire ends and wrap the headband in ribbon to match the garland.
