America’s fascination with reality television is evident with all of the reality shows that are heating up the airways. On September 19,2011 fans can once again watch as televison stars, sport stars, and other celebrities dance their way into reality hall of fame by winning “Dancing With The Stars’. Season 13 will premiere that day with many unique celebrities showing off their dance skills or lack of.
ABC announced their fall lineup for the show and some big names made the list, some quite surprising , at least to this writer. The cast of 12 people is made up of 6 men and 6 women all seemingly fairly different from each other. One cast member might cause a stir of controversy and that publicity could be exactly why the show chose that particular member. Cher, musical superstar, is supporting her son being on the show, but some controversary could come from him appearing due to the fact that her son, Chaz Bono was actually born Chasity Bono, a girl. Following a sex gender change, she is now a man who will be dancing with the women of the show.
Another surprising dancer is NBA superstar Ron Artest. Ron has been known for being in trouble several times during his time with the NBA for his temper. A former Indiana Pacer, Artest was traded due to the legal issues he had in Indiana. It will be interesting to see how he handles what the judges have to say about his performances.
Speaking of legal issues, former prosecutor turned talk show host, Nancy Grace will be one of this year’s cast members as well. Nancy is a hard-nosed host of her own show that takes on the current crimes happening in the world. Nancy would be a great judge, but I wonder if she can dance? The world will soon be able to see for themselves if she has a hidden talent.
Kardashian is a name that most reality television fans is well aware of, but who expected Rob Kardashian to be a part of this show. I would have expected Kim or Khloe to be on the show, but not Rob. We will have to see if this young man with a name that all recognize can possibly be another star in his own right.
Also, keep your eyes on US Olympic Gold Medalst, Hope Solo, to sitr up the competition. This young soccer star knows what competition is all about and she knows that it takes hard work and skill to win. She also may have the legs for the competition since she plays soccer for the US Women’s team. We will have to see if her moves on the field help her moves on the dance floor.
Actor JR Martinez should be a force to be reckoned with. He is an Iraq War veteran and so he may be used to dancing to miss those missiles and bombs that the soldiers deal with. Also, he should be in great physical shape due to the training that I am sure he received during his time in the military. Dancing takes some physical strength and determination and soldiers usually have both of those.
Other celebrities that made the cast this year are Ricki Lake, Chynna Phillips, Kristin Cavallari, Elisabetta Canalis, David Arquette, and Carson Kressley. This list includes past talk show hosts, musicians, actors and actresses . It will be intersting to see who wins this season and who can dance and who simply should have stayed home.
Tune your television sets to the new season of “Dancing With the Stars” and see if you can predict the winner after the first episode on September 19. I believe that as fans of the show, we may be pleasantly surprised of what these stars can do.
