Chicago Bears 2011 Preview

We are in year two of the Mike Martz and Jay Cutler era and in 2010 Cutler finished with 3,274 yards passing and 23 touchdown passes. Another season together should lead to a greater passing attack, though I don’t see this offense making anyone forget about the Greatest Show On Turf. With another season together the offensive line should gel under the tutelage of coach Mike Tice. The addition of Gabe Carimi should also bolster the Bears offensive line.

Another year with Martz will benefit Cutler. The additions of two former Dallas Cowboys, Roy Williams and Marion Barber, help diversify the offense. Williams, in particular, enjoyed his best seasons while in Detroit under Martz. Barber should be an effective short yardage back and can help pace Matt Forte, where Chester Taylor was unable to last season.

The Bears will always be known as defensive team and even though they are starting to show their collective age, Urlacher is 33, Peppers is 31 and Briggs is 30, they are still a formidable bunch and can carry the teams in spots.

Last season saw the Bears finish as NFC North champs. Ultimately they fell to, the eventual Super Bowl champs, Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Many prognosticators have the Bears taking a step back. But

I am a homer for the Monsters of the Midway and I see a 10-6 season and a Wild Card berth in the playoffs.
