One film that is sure to get the attention of horror fans worldwide is “Boneboys.” For some reason, audiences just can’t seem to get enough of crazed psychos who feel the need to torture people, kill them, and then use them as meat. What does this say about our society? Hopefully nothing, except we love a good horror film.
The story of “Boneboys,” according to Twitch Film, revolves around “a birthday celebration at an upscale restaurant [that] sets in motion events that bring Sissy, her brother, Mikey, and friends, Kenny and Barbie, face to face with the macabre world of the Boneboys. The Boneboys are international predators who deal in human flesh–dead or alive. Their hunting grounds are the cities of the world.”
What an interesting concept we have here. What’s been done is the traditional, crazy “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” family has been taken out of the isolated backwoods and plopped down in the middle of a metropolitan area. The idea that those very same atrocities that are committed in the middle of nowhere could just as easily be committed at your local diner in downtown New York or any other city is frightening.
Whenever a crazed group of wackos who hunt humans are mentioned as part of the plot of a movie, it’s hard not to make comparisons to the classic “Chainsaw Massacre” and yell rip-off. In the case of “Boneboys,” the filmmakers have every right to fly the flag of influence from that classic flick. The writer/producer of “Boneboys” and the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” happen to be one and the same. Both films are from the mind of Kim Henkel.
Texans Duane Graves and Justin Meeks direct “Boneboys.” This is the power team behind the atmospheric indie labor of love “The Wild Man of the Navidad.” Anyone who has seen that movie can bare witness to the duo’s skill at building a slow-burning fire of suspense and terror. They also have a way with establishing the atmosphere of a film. With “The Wild Man of the Navidad,” you really felt what it would be like to live in a small redneck town in the wastelands of Texas.
The cast of “Boneboys” reads like a “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” Reunion. The film stars Marilyn Burns (Sally Hardesty), Bill Johnson (Leatherface in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2″), Ed Neal (Hitchhiker), Bill Wise (Heckler in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation”), Perry Lorenz (Pick-Up Driver) and John Dugan (Grandfather). Now that’s a fun and impressive line-up of genre veterans.
“Boneboys” also stars Derek Lee Nixon (“The Lights”), Ali Faulkner (“Bad Kids Go to Hell”), and Tory Tompkins (“Untitled Horror Comedy”). It is scheduled to be released January 1, 2012. You can get a first look at pictures from “Boneboys” right here.
