Best Washington, D.C., Metro Area Concerts for 2012

When it comes to concerts, 2012 promises to be a memorable year in the Washington, D.C., metro area. Whether you’re planning a vacation to the nation’s capital or are a local resident, you can experience world-class live music throughout the district. Purchase tickets and make hotel reservations well in advance of the larger arena concerts, as the shows sell out quickly.

Alternative rocker Ryan Adams kicks off a year of exciting concerts. Adams, an accomplished songwriter and producer of acts such as Norah Jones and Counting Crows, takes to the stage January 24 for one night only at Strathmore, the celebrated arts and cultural center, located in Bethesda, Maryland. Ryan Adams has released 13 albums since 2000, the latest being his solo hit “Ashes & Fire,” and performs for fans in performing arts venues across the country. R&B sensation Eric Benet comes to the Birchmere, located just outside of Washington, D.C., in Alexandria, Virginia, on February 7 and 8. Benet released his first album in 1996 and became a household name in 2000 when his Grammy-nominated duet with Tamia, “Spend My Life With You,” topped the charts. Benet’s latest album features duets with Faith Evans, who sang on his first hit “Georgy Porgy,” and Chrisette Michelle. Tickets for Eric Benet’s Birchmere performances are on sale now at Ticketmaster and cost $59.50 each. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. on February 7 and 8.

Prolific jazz guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his band Luna Negra perform at the Birchmere on May 9. The best-selling German musician, known for his sultry flamenco style, has recorded more than 30 albums since 1989. Liebert has recorded consistently with Luna Negra, although band members have changed throughout the years. Tickets for Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra’s Birchmere performance are on sale now at Ticketmaster and cost $35 each. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on May 9.

Coldplay comes to the Verizon Center located in downtown Washington, D.C., July 8 and 9, 2012. The MTV VMA- and Grammy-award winning British rock band’s world tour begins in April in Canada and ends September in Germany. Coldplay, known for political activism and controversy, lands in the nation’s capital at the height of campaign season to perform classics as well as hits from their latest album, “Mylo Xyloto.” Ticket prices for the band’s July 8 and 9 performances can be purchased online at Ticketmaster and authorized resellers. Prices range between $77 and $127, depending on the seating area. Concerts start at 7 p.m. on July 8 and 9.

Country music superstars Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw bring the “Brothers of the Sun Tour 2012″ to FedEx Field, commonly known as Washington Redskins Stadium, on August 12. “Tim and I have been great friends since we first toured together, and I can’t wait to get back on the road with him,” Chesney said in a press release posted on the artist’s website. Chesney and McGraw, both veterans on the country music scene, have topped the country music charts since the early 1990s, have won numerous country and pop music awards, and have collaborated with a range music artists in genres ranging from rock to hip hop. Tickets for the “Brothers of the Sun Tour 2012″ are on sale now at Ticketmaster. Prices range from $30 to $260, depending on the seating area. The concert starts at 4:30 p.m. on August 12.
