Best Kept Secret : the Holy Grail of Beer

Things the Concierge won’t Tell You
If you are coming to Las Vegas for a little fun, I want to let you in on a secret that the big casinos don’t want you to know. Away from the dancing fountains and pirate shows, there is another world where the locals like to go without getting tangled up with the crowds. It’s a small casino that is tucked away off the beaten track.
Behind the Bally’s Hotel at Flaming Boulevard and the strip, you will find the modest, but durable diamond in the rough known as the Ellis Island Casino.
No Statue in Front

As themes are a big deal in Las Vegas, don’t get confused looking for the Statue of Liberty. That would be at the New York, New York Casino which is about a mile away. Ellis Island is on a back street called Koval Lane, known only by the taxi drivers and the locals..It’s a tiny place that depends on the residents who come there for several excellent restaurants and the best Karaoke bar in town.It also has a micro brewery that makes the best beer anywhere!

Let’s Get to the Point

Ellis Island can barely make enough beer fast enough to keep up with the demand. Before I start to rave about that wonderful stuff, I’ll tell you a few other reasons why you should visit.

They are not paying me to say this, but some free beer would be nice!

If you like Bar-B-Que, get there at 4 o’clock and sign up to get a table in the restaurant, next to the brewery. This is the giant plate version with a rack of ribs and a hefty chicken. With classic side orders of corn on the cob and campfire beans you will be in bar- b -que heaven. Make sure you see the right hostess or you will wind up at the steak house, which is a whole different deal. Ellis Island is famous for their big steak dinner, with all the fixings like salad and baked potato, which cost $8.88 last time I looked. Make your choice between the two diners and go join the gambler’s club to get a card for your big discounts.

Waiting for your number to be called and getting hungry, you can sit at one of the antique slot machines to risk a few dollars. The beautiful cocktail waitress will serve you tall beers for free! Look for Sonya, my favorite Russian, and be sure to ask for a glass of Stout.
The beer comes in several shades from pale ale down to molasses brown, which is my recommended choice.

What happens in Vegas

Just tip the lady a buck for every glass and your head will start spinning in the right direction.
You will be serenaded by the music coming from the newly redecorated Karaoke Bar and it just sounds better, the more you drink! If you decide to join in, be sure to pick a song you have heard before and tell your friends not to post you on the internet.
What happens in Las Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas!
