Are Sugar Gliders Good Pets? Yes They Are Adorable but Require Specific Attention and Can Be Hostile

If you are looking for an alternative to a dog or a cat, sugar gliders are great pets because they are smart, playful and adorable! but the best part is that you don’t have to break the bank to buy one, unless you are looking for those rare white ones.

Sugar Gliders are marsupials from Australia, they are small gliding possums. They are easy to obtain in the United States, check for a licensed breeder in your state and make sure that the breeder knows all about them and the importance of hand feeding sugar gliders to insure their bonding with humans.

There are several things you need to consider when buying a Sugar glider, one that they are extremely sociable creatures and want a lot of attention. When my kids get home from school each one has their own time with our female sugar glider name Bonnie. The price to keep up with a sugar glider goes at around 100 dollars a month. They like to eat crickets and worms, we also give Bonnie some of our food like apples, and salad.
Sugar gliders have a nice sense of smell, if you want to speed up the bonding process then make sure you put a couple of shirts from all the members of the family. They have to be shirt that they wore that day so that they sugar glider can get used to their smell.

Shirts with pockets are great for sugar gliders, since they spend so much time in their mothers’ pouches, so be sure to own a couple of those.

There are also plenty of resources on the internet, from videos and blogs about sugar gliders to local breeders and also organizations, check your state for available resources.

Sugar gliders can be great pets for kids; however, one thing to consider is their nails, because they are long and are needed to be long so that they can grip on things, they can also scratch the skin and some kids might not like that. The best thing to do is visit a place that has them so that you can test your kid’s reaction.

You can potty train sugar gliders by stimulating them to use the bathroom, there are plenty of videos out there to help you get familiar with that as well.

I own two of them and sometimes we help the breeder by taking a few new borns, they are absolutely adorable and I am so glad that someone had told me about them.
