The duties of a governor general is to represent the ruling British Monarch in Canada. The governor general carries out administrative duties and also celebratory or festive activities. We will now look at the three female governor generals of Canada, two of which were from Montreal.

Talk of a high position
Adrienne Clarkson continued to work and produce films throughout the 1990s. Clarkson wrote and also produced, The Lust In His Eye: Visions of James Wilson Morrice (1996). James Wilson Morrice, was one of the Canada’s greatest artists of the 20th century, who was internationally known. A second great film she wrote and produced was Borduas and Me and Artemisia.
By this time Adrienne was well on her way to one of the highest positions in Canada. Ottawa was buzzing with word of a possible appointment by the Queen-in-council, the legislative body in England for countries of the realm.
The process began to unfold in 1990. First, Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, appointed Adrienne Clarkson as the chair of the board of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, following the recommendation from Prime Minster Jean Chrétien and the Minister of Canadian Heritage Michel Dupuy. Later ,Clarkson was also made chair of the Canadian War Museum In 2005, Adrienne Clarkson would open the building for the Canadian War Museum as Governor General of Canada.
