A Welcome Stranger

The normally rowdy saloon was quiet, had been since Rex and his two thugs had entered several marks earlier. No one dared draw the attention of the three men sitting in the back, not after Rex had shot the Sheriff and his deputy the day before.

Rex had come into town not long before, along with a group of men. He had started buying up property, using black mail and force to convince those who were unwilling. At first the town had fought back, but after the death of the Sheriff and deputy the town had become to scared to fight back.

A fact the Rex seemed to be taking advantage of. He and his men had already damaged a table and broken two chairs. An attempt to collect payment for the whiskey earlier had earned the bartender a bullet in the arm.

“You girl, another round,” Rex slurred. Bella approached them hesitantly with mugs. A man grabbed her from behind and tugged her down into his lap. She gasped and yanked away, fortunately the man was too drunk to be able to hold on and she managed to pull away. She stumbled back. Arms wrapped around her and caught her before she fell.

“Now that’s no way to treat a lady,” a voice said from behind her. She turned and found herself face to face with a tall stranger, dressed in grey.

“Look here boys we have ourselves a gentlemen,” Rex sneered standing, hands sliding down to his gun. His two goons followed suit. What little noise there had been stopped completely as everyone turned their attention to the fight.

“Now, now gentlemen we don’t try to settle this peacefully. Violence doesn’t solve anything” the man said raising his hands up showing he was unharmed.

“Listen to this, he want’s to settle this peacefully. A Real weakling it seems. Lets show these guy exactly what violence solves boys.” Rex said drawing his gun. The man just sighed.

“I didn’t want to have to do this however it seem like I have no choice.” The man said shaking his hand as he stepped forward to stand in front of Bella.

“Get him boys.” Rex shouted angrily and cocked his gun. Three shots rang out one after another, followed by a crash.

“Ahhh!” Bella screeched, in shocked, stepping back at the sight before her.

“I warned them. However they forced my hand.” the stranger said softly looking down at the three dead bodies on the floor. He shook his head.

“Well little lady it’s been an exciting evening however its time for me to be leaving. Sorry if I’ve caused any problems.” the man murmured, nodding.

“Wait, at least tell me your name stranger?” Bella called as he stepped toward the door. He turned and smiled.

“You can call me Will,” he answered, before walked out, the sound of the door swing shut behind.
