When the sunlight fades on a cold winter day
The streetlights turn on and toys are put away
The children retire
To their cozy beds
Where they wait for dawn
And wonderful thoughts
Drift through their heads
The fireplace flickers
As the flames dance
But they’re soon extinguished
As Santa won’t take a chance!
The gifts are placed under the tree
With special care
Leaving little trace
That anyone was there
When dawn breaks on a cold winter day
The yearning children no longer wait
