3 Ways to Get Your Beauty Sleep

We have all heard the term “beauty sleep”, but not many people get it each night. While you sleep, your body works hard to recover from the day and repair skin cells and muscle tissue, as well as boost the immune system. When you don’t have enough sleep, you can tell from the sallow complexion and circles under the eyes, and long term affects of a lack of sleep include weight gain, exhaustion and irritability. While it’s not possible to get a full eight hours of sleep every night, there are a few ways you can ensure the sleep you do get is quality resting time. Here are three ways you can improve your beauty sleep each night:

Limit the Stimulation – We might all be guilty of watching television, checking our email or reading Twitter right before bed, but this type of stimulation can have negative effects on our quality of sleep. Mental stimulation, especially through technology, causes the brain to become alert even if you feel sleepy. Refrain from going on the Internet or watching television at least 30 minutes before bed to improve your quality of sleep. In those 30 minutes, try a yoga sequence that will improve your sleep, such as one found on Fitsugar.com called Sweet Dreams: Drift Off to Sleep With This Yoga Sequence.

Relax – You can incorporate many tools into your evening activities that will help you sleep. Before bedtime, unwind in a bath with a calming bubble bath, such as Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Body Wash & Foam Bath in Lavender Chamomile, which soothes and relaxes the body and mind right before you go to sleep. Read a book before bed, which will be entertaining and help you relax after a long day. Dimmed lights in the bedroom will also help your mind get into a sleepy mode.

Pamper Yourself – Just because you’re sleeping doesn’t mean you can’t pamper yourself. Wear a luxurious sleeping mask, such as Dream Essence Sleep Mask, to block out light, and try one that allows you to incorporate a herb sachet so you can enjoy aromatherapy throughout the night. Herb sachets filled with lavender and chamomile relax your mind and encourage a great night’s sleep!

While it may be hard to turn off outside stimulation in order to get some sleep, it’s necessary if you want to remain healthy and have good-looking skin. Try one tip at a time to create a new bedtime ritual and then include the others over time until you feel comfortable setting the time aside. While we all want to remain busy and productive until the last minute, it will actually decrease these factors over time with a lack of sleep.
