Why is Newt Gingrich so Damn Likeable

When Newt Gingrich was the Speaker of the House, he was the most hated man in America I was only a teenager at the time. Back then, I knew nothing about politics. However, now, as an adult, I’ve been able to look into his past. I can see why he was the most hated man in America at one point. Which begs the question: If Newt Gingrich was the most hated man in America at one point, why is he so damn likeable now?

First and foremost, Newt is knowledgeable. In contrast to Herman Cain who flubbed information on foreign policy, and Rick Perry who couldn’t remember the federal departments he so desperately wanted to close, Newt knows what hes talking about. He knows statistics and information off the cuff and doesn’t really dribble his words. The American people can tell that he knows what he’s talking about. Even if they don’t agree with him, they know he’s got the knowledge.

Another reason Newt Gingrich is likable is because he’s funny. In many of the debates so far, Newt has delivered one liners with the comedic timing of Norm McDonalds. His stone cold face and eyes that state “what are you talking about” make the American public pop with laughter. Sure, it’s slightly cocky. But it’s a humorous cocky, and puts us at ease. After all, don’t we want a President who can make us laugh. Don’t we want a President who has some of the same attributes as the common man.

Thirdly, Newt Gingrich is completely opposite of the President of the United States, Barack Obama. Whereas Barack is a skinny African American with a sunny disposition, Newt is an overweight Caucasian with a slight smirk that says “I’m smarter than you.” And America wants a President that is completely opposite what we have now. Not because Barack Obama is a bad President, but moreover because of the situations we are in. They relate the situations to Barack Obama. If you want change, which the American people have been screaming for, they’re going to want a complete 180 turn around. Newt Gingrich is the complete 180.

I personally don’t agree with some of Newt’s policies. And unlike many common voters, I don’t get persuaded by personality. I’m all about the issues. But, our country is full of people who are going to vote for the personality and not the policies. And Newt has shown to have the most likable personality so far in the debates. Cain and Rick Perry flub, not to mention Cain’s past infidelities. Representative Ron Paul is probably the best choice for change as far as policies go, but his personality leaves a lot to be desired. Mitt Romney is a prime example of a stick figure coming to life. And everybody has fallen by the waist side eons ago.

If the Republicans want to win the Presidency in 2012, Newt Gingrich may be their only chance. President Barack Obama is smooth and swift, a political Billy Dee Williams. Gingrich may be the only one who can knock him down.
