Ways to Control Clutter in the Main Bathroom

A bathroom countertop can become filled with clutter, especially when several family members use hair and beauty products day after day. Sometimes it becomes cluttered because of a lack of storage space. Organization is the key when trying to control clutter in a bathroom of any size. With a few simple organizational tools, everything can have a place, and it can be put away in a matter of seconds.

My daughter had a drawer full of barrettes, combs, brushes and other styling products, but they rarely made it back into the space. The clutter began taking over the main bathroom countertop, and I had to find a way to control it. I used baskets, decorative ribbons and other creative methods to control the clutter, and my daughter began helping with organization. Having extra places for storage made a huge difference, and I was no longer ashamed when guests used the bathroom.

Control Clutter with a Hanging Barrette Organizer

Barrettes should not take up an entire bathroom drawer, but before I found a creative way to control the clutter, my daughter had barrettes scattered everywhere. I came up with a cute way to hold all of her barrettes, and it encouraged her to put them away. The article entitled How to Make a Doll to Hold Hair Barrettes and Accessories provides easy instructions. Make a felt doll with braided yarn hair to hold hair clips and more. It will help decorate and organize the bathroom in a clever new way.

Outfit a Freestanding Shelf with Baskets to Control the Clutter

Barrettes were not the only items creating clutter in my main bathroom. My daughter had bottles of hair products, body wash, powder and other items that kept getting knocked over in the bathroom cabinet. The hidden clutter was just as bad as the mess on the bathroom countertop. I solved the problem with a freestanding shelf and baskets. I purchased a decorative wrought iron shelf along with beautiful woven baskets that fit the shelves. I organized shampoo, conditioner, hairspray and other products in the baskets, and they were within easy reach. Clutter was no longer a major problem in my main bathroom. I was able to use the cabinet below the sink to hold folded towels and other linens, and I used the linen closet to store and organize holiday decor. However, I still had one more problem area to tackle.

Store Combs and Brushes in a Heavy Ceramic Jar

A drawer is not the ideal place to store brushes and combs. They were often left on my main bathroom countertop because they did not easily fit in the drawer. I solved the problem with a heavy ceramic jar. I purchased a glazed pink jar that was just the right height to hold combs and brushes. I was able to free up another bathroom drawer, and most of the time the combs and brushes were put away where they belonged.

I used the empty drawer to hold my cosmetics and a few other small grooming items. Not only did I control and corral the main sources of clutter, but I had more room than ever in my main bathroom. Baskets and other types of functional decor solved the problem once and for all.
