Bryce Canyon National Park is one of Utah’s most spectacular sites. This National Park is located southeast of Panguitch. It is home to many rock formations, formed by the earth’s erosion. The formations are enhanced by the various colors of the rocks. When the sun shines on the rocks, the bright red, yellow, and brown tints become vibrant.
This park is open year round. The roads going through the park offer roadside viewing areas.There is a road that takes the visitors around the park, which is quite easily navigated. This 37 mile round trip takes visitors to the rim of the canyon and offers many roadside vistas. There is a free shuttle service, operational from May to September, for visitors who do not want to drive. There are 13 stops on the shuttle tour, which makes picture taking accessible for visitors.
Hikers find the trails range from easy to difficult, depending upon the route taken. The altitude is definitely a problem for some hikers, so it is advisable that hikers acclimate themselves to the high altitude before taking off on one of the many trails.
There are horseback tours available, also. Canyon Trail Rides departs from the lodge, and offers two hour rides or half day trips daily. These only operate from April to October.
Campers can camp in improved sites, or be adventurous and camp in the backcountry areas of the Park. Reservations for the improved sites can be made by contacting the National Recreation Reservation System at 877-444-6777. The sunset and sunrises at the park should not be missed. They can be best seen while camping in the park.
The admission price to the park is per car. It is $25, however, if visitors arrive by other means, they are charged $12 per person. This admission fee is good for seven days, so it is an economical way to see one of the most gorgeous National Parks in the National Park System.
The National Park Visitor Center is the place to start when you enter the Park. The center has exhibits that show the geology of the region. Park Rangers conduct free hikes and talks for visitors. There is a video shown depicting the park’s history. Maps and other pertinent information can be obtained at this center.
There is a lodge located in the Park. This lodge offers comfortable accommodations year round. Information packets can be obtained by contacting the Brynce Canyon National Park, P.O. aBox 640201, Bryce Canyon, Utah. 84764.
There is a town located at the entrance to the park. It is Bryce Canyon City, which offers restaurants, shopping, lodging and other services year round, for those who do not want to camp in the park or stay at the park lodge.
